There it is. The perfect couch for your living room is sitting at a yard sale. You didn’t even know you wanted it until you saw it. You get a great deal on it and load it in the back of a truck to take home.

But where has that furniture been?

It can be a lot of fun hunting for used furniture at garage sales, consignment stores, and antique stores.  You can get some incredible pieces of furniture and more often than not, you can get a great deal as well.

The problem is that you don’t know the last time it was cleaned, if ever. Maybe the couch you want has had four different owners with no cleaning done for twenty years.

You need to clean and clean used furniture before bringing it into your home!

Be rid of dust, dirt, and stains. Don’t put up with unpleasant odors.

Here is what you’ll want to do:

First thing, you will want to be sure that your furniture is properly cleaned.  There are a number of ways to clean your furniture.  You can purchase cleaning wipes, aerosol sprays, or create your own mixture of vinegar and warm water and wipe it all down.  For the absolute best results, call in furniture cleaning professionals like Southside Chem-Dry for our professional-strength cleaner to eliminate dirt.

After you have cleaned your furniture, you can begin removing any unwanted odors.  Since many of these odors can be caused by moisture that has been trapped in the fabric or pet odors, fabric fresheners and deodorizers won’t get rid of the musty smell.  Instead, you should try cleaning the fabric with warm water and vinegar or using baking soda or calling Chem-Dry. We specialize in eliminating unwanted odors, not just masking them!

Once you have taken these necessary steps, you will feel more comfortable bringing the furniture into your home and you can begin to enjoy your new treasures!
